Jetset Lad To Fly Flag In Brisbane
22 Apr 2012
A Group One-performed Goodwood Stud graduate will spearhead Taranaki trainer John Wheeler’s team to the Queensland winter carnival.
Easter Handicap fourth placegetter Jetset Lad has been confirmed for Brisbane in the wake of his top last-start effort at Ellerslie.
“It was a huge run after he missed the jump by probably a length and ended up five wide,” Wheeler said.
“She (Spratt) had to chug forward from there and she did the best she could in the circumstances.
“The horse is the author of his own destiny really. He’s a bit of a loose cannon and still tends to do a few things wrong, but he is a fair sort.”
Wheeler is keen to stake a place in another Gr 1 feature in Brisbane and a race he won twice in the early 1990s with his former star Rough Habit.
“He’ll be going and will be aimed at the Stradbroke, but if he doesn’t get in that then there are plenty of other handicap sprints around for him,” he said.
By Elusive City, Jetset Lad is out of the winning Jetball mare Jetset Lass, who is a half-sister to Singapore Gr 3 winner Sky Frontier.
It is also the family of the dual Gr 1 Underwood Stakes and Doomben Cup winner Perlin.
