Chinese Dragon Off The Mark

Goodwood Stud received a major boost at Karaka this week when they celebrated the first winner for resident stallion Chinese Dragon.

His genuine daughter Little Dragon Girl broke through for a deserved victory at Hastings for trainer Gary Vile.

Bred in the United States, Chinese Dragon began his racing career in Ireland where he was a two-year-old winner.

The son of Stravinsky then returned to his native America and won five of his six starts the following season, including four stakes races.

Chinese Dragon trained on to win the Gr 2 Golden Gate San Francisco Mile and was placed in the Gr 1 Santa Anita Kilroe Mile.

He is a out of the winning ALydar mare Fabulous Fairy who is a daughter of the former top racemare Fairy Footsteps.

A half-sister to Gr 1 English St Leger winner Light Cavalry, she won the Gr 1 English 1000 Guineas and represents the successful stallion family of Desert Prince.

Goodwood will offer three Chinese Dragon colts during the Festival Sale at Karaka with the first, Lot 1254, out of the winning Prized mare Lesley Coup.

She is the dam of the dual stakes winner Whoshe (Great Northern Foal Stakes, Wanganui Guineas).

Lot 1336 is out of a half-sister to the dual Gr 1 winner Moss Downs (Kelt Capital Classic, Easter Handicap) and to the dam of Gr 1 Turnbull Stakes winner Sphenophyta.

Their final Chinese Dragon colt, Lot 1452, is out of a half-sister by Howbaddouwantit to the Listed Castletown Stakes winner Pearly Spencer.

Also featuring the his pedigree is the dual Gr 1 Railway and Telegraph Handicap winner Bawalaksana.
