Barbaric savages stakes rivals
29 Nov 2013

Barbaric showed he was on target to fulfil his Group One destiny with a stunning black type win at Otaki this afternoon.

The Goodwood Stud-bred and raced chestnut overcame difficulties in the running to claim the Listed Levin Stakes in dashing style.

Trainer Stephen Marsh has never doubted the ability of Barbaric, who has suffered persistent joint and feet issues in the past.

“He’s definitely a Telegraph horse and that’s where he’s been aimed for a while and now he’s right that is where he’s headed,” he said.

The Pins gelding got back in the running and once clear he produced a dazzling late finish to post the fifth win on his 11-start career.

Rider Matt Cameron said Barbaric was tardy from the barrier and was then squeezed by other runners from outside.

“I didn’t want to be that far back, but he never jumps that well and the others came across and we got shuffled back.

“He’s really come right and feeling good – Stephen’s done a great job with him.”
