Runway a mare to follow
03 Dec 2015Runway has been tipped by an experienced hand to make good progress through the grades this preparation.
The Goodwood Stud-bred graduate was ridden to her third career victory at New Plymouth today by Johnathon Parkes.
“She won very well and should have a good season ahead of her,” the Wanganui-based jockey said.
Trained by John Wheeler, Runway finished strongly to win over 1400 metres, a distance short of her best.
“She’s always been a handy mare and the pace was on early and she was left a bit flat-footed,” Parkes said.
“But they soon came back to us and she showed a good turn of foot.”
Runway is a daughter of Pins and the Generous mare Double Elle, who won five races.
It is the Group One family of Guiseppina (Telegraph Handicap), Trappings (WA Oaks) and The Pooka (NZ 2000 Guineas).
