Goodwood off to a cup day flyer
23 Jan 2016Goodwood Stud made an early impression on the big stage at Trentham this afternoon.
Farm graduate Jonquil doubled her winning tally with success against the Rating 65 stayers.
The Sakhee’s Secret four-year-old enjoyed a good run and finished off strongly over the 2300 metre trip.
Jonquil had finished fifth on the opening day of the meeting for Rosie Myers, who again had the ride.
“She got into tight quarters and she wasn’t that confident,” she said.
“We got out into the open this time and she finished off really well.”
Jonquil is prepared at Awapuni by Ashley Meadows, who secured the mare from Goodwood.
“I liked her at Karaka and she didn’t sell so I went out and saw William (Fell) and got her,” he said.
“We might look at the St Leger for her now.”
Jonquil is out of the Danasinga mare Spring Dancer, a half-sister to the multiple Group One winner Daffodil.
