Outstanding Derby performance
05 Mar 2016What’s The Story all but wrote a winning Group One tale for Goodwood Stud at Ellerslie this afternoon.
The Savabeel colt gave them all the major players a start and very nearly a beating in the New Zealand Derby at Ellerslie.
What’s The Story settled off the pace and finished powerfully along the fence to finish a close second.
“It was a huge run and we nearly got there,” rider Sam Spratt said.
“He’s a horse with an awful lot of ability and once he puts it all together he’ll be very good.”
What’s The Story was bred by Goodwood and Fairdale Studs and sold through the latter’s 2014 Premier Sale line-up.
Purchased for $80,000 by Albert Bosma’s Go Racing Ltd, he is out of a half-sister to the multiple Group One winner Tall Poppy.
The dam Tall Story has now left five winners, including the Australian Group performer Base.
