Goodwood’s Mihaul a serious prospect
02 May 2016The highly-regarded Goodwood Stud graduate Mihaul ensured a case of all’s well that ends well for the Sharrock stable when he started his career in perfect style at Hastings.

The strapping two-year-old was an impressive first-up winner at odds of 12-1 on Saturday to restock the betting chest after the yard had taken a hit the previous weekend at Trentham where Turncoat was a beaten favourite on debut.

Mihaul hadn’t trialled in public, but trainer Allan Sharrock had the utmost confidence in the son of Iffraaj.

“We like him a lot and he had won a couple of jump-outs against the older horses and that was always going to stand him in good stead when he went into a two-year-old race,” he said.

“He got away from the punters after they had got stung the Saturday before with Turncoat – we thought he would win.”

Sharrock said Mihaul could make one more appearance this season – if the gelding is still in his care.

“He’s a big boy and he’s out of Lol, who ran third in the Ryder Stakes for Murray Baker, so he’s got some upside.”

A daughter of General Nediym, Lol was bred and raced by Goodwood who sold Mihaul for $40,000 to Sharrock at Karaka last year.

“He was always going to need time and he might have another run as a two-year-old, although there’s already been interest from Hong Kong. He could be a very serious horse,” Sharrock said.
