Game mare opens winning account
22 Sep 2017A Group One pedigree was to the fore at Taupo this afternoon for Breeders of the Year Goodwood Stud.
Farm graduate Florence Ivy broke through for her first success with a bold front-running display.
She controlled the pace under Mark Du Plessis and fought on gravely over 1800m to open her account.
“She got a largely uncontested lead, kicked and held on,” Du Plessis said.
“She’s one of those types that will get better with more racing.”
The five-year-old is raced by Kim Clotworthy, whose son trains the mare with his wife Emma.
By the Gr.1 AJC Derby winner Nom du Jeu, Florence Ivy is out Vermillion, a sister to the Gr.1 Brisbane Cup winner Portland Singa.
