Group One glory for Goodwood
06 Apr 2019A commanding front-running performance by Nicoletta has landed her a prized Group One victory at Te Aroha.
The Goodwood Stud graduate revelled in her role at the head of the in the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.
She travelled easily to the turn and, after shooting clear 300 metres out, had enough in reserve for a deserved victory.
Nicoletta had twice previously placed at the highest level and she is now a significantly more valuable broodmare proposition.
The daughter of Savebeel was sold by Goodwood Stud at Karaka to Lib Petagna’s JML Bloodstock in 2015.
“She’s twice Group One-placed and is deserving of a Group One win so I’m glad she’s got it,” Nicoletta’s co-trainer Andrew Forsman said.
“He timed it to perfection as I said just out-stay them as she won’t beat them in a sprint home.
“He took it to them and she was just the toughest, fittest horse. They were coming at her late, but he got it right.”
Forsman was delighted Nicoletta’s fortunes had turned around. .
“She just hasn’t had anything go right,” he said.
“She hasn’t been going poorly and looked outstanding today.
“I said to Jake that she was hard-fit and ready to go so put her in the race and give her her chance.
“She is good enough to beat these types of horses and she showed that today.”
